I received a BLINK grant from the Madison Arts Commission to curate [Park It!], a one-day, eight parking stall art installation with seven other local artists on National PARK(ing) Day, September 17th, 2010. The parking stalls we took over reside in the 1900 block of Atwood Ave. on the Near-East side. Weather that Friday was gorgeous, a blue-sky farewell to summer, and the concrete was resplendent with sod provided to us by Gemini Landscaping. Participating artists from the east to the west of this installation line-up include Angela Richardson (Cherokee Marsh), Patrick Breiner (Stumpfest 2010), William Turnbull (Olbrich Conservatory), Tyler Mackie (Picnic With Me & B.B.), John Hitchcock and Lance Owens (Prowler: Madison’s Tiny Parks), Kyle Pfister (Hunger and Obesity Can Both Be Solved With Dirt), and Christine Olson (Roll Down Sanitarium Hill).
Special thanks goes to the participating artists, Sustainable Atwood, local businesses including Thorps, Alchemy, Green Owl, Ideal Bar, Yonda Photography, Batch Bakery, ACE Hardware (Willy St.) and Gayfeather Fabrics, as well as Pam from Gemini and our friend Balthazar for providing these lovely photos as mementos of the day. Thanks also to Kyle Pfister for all of his hard work capturing all of the great earned media for this event (some of this can be viewed on video here: http://vimeo.com/15071258). And THANK YOU to all the viewers who came out and shared this space with us for the day.
Go team!
